When Variety sat down with Matthew McConaughey to chat briefly about the state of his career renaissance ranging from Mud to a brief-but-spectacular turn in The Wolf of Wall Street and his heart-felt performance as Ron Woodroof in Dallas Buyers Club. Not to be left out of the conversation regarding television, McConaughey has also lit up the small-screen in HBO’s True Detective. Yet nothing has fans as excited as McConaughey’s next project: leading a sci-fi epic with director Christopher Nolan.
When asked about the upcoming film by Variety, McConaughey had this to say about working on-set. “There’s no fucking around on set,” the actor notes. “He’s a great problem solver. In that way, he’s very indie. Here’s a guy who could have whatever budget he wants — and we finished shooting early.”
The really intriguing passage of the interview with Mr. McConaughey was this brief soundbite:
"Here’s what I can tell you. It’s the most ambitious thing he’s ever done. And he’s done some ambitious stuff."That is quite the statement given the work Nolan has released recently in The Dark Knight and Inception, if expectations weren’t high enough already, they might just be resting around the stratosphere following that quote. November won’t get here soon enough for some cinephiles.
Interstellar hits theatres and IMAX on November 7th.
